Democratic National Convention

Democratic National Convention 2012

This years Democratic National Convention was help in Charlotte North Carolina on September 4-6. There were almost 100 speakers for the event. Jimmy Carter did not attend but instead spoke via video. Michelle Obama kicked off the event and President Obama ended the ceremonies by accepting the nomination along with Joe Biden. Some other notable speakers were:

  • Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee
  • Former Republican Governor of Florida Charlie Crist
  • Congressman Barney Frank of Massachusetts
  • Congressman Steny Hoyer of Maryland
  • U.S. Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts
  • Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick
  • AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka
The theme of the event was "Forward", a message that seems to say America is moving into a new paradigm in the Obama administration. Bill Clintons speach was talked about a lot it seemed on the air waves, he seemed to still be able to inspire and motivate the Democratic base.

The Democrat National Convention was more or less just to energize the base of the party and unite them around the president. This is normal as neither party has nominated someone when the sitting president is of the party. During the convention Ted Kennedy was honored with a tribute to the deceased former senator.
